The sun had just risen up in the sky. It was the start of a new day and everything was starting to wake up, including those blasted birds. In the small forest behind the field, birds rose into the sky, singing and cawing noisily as they flew. The large wolf opened one eye and wearily let out a half hearted snarl at the fowl. The large creature rose to his paws, feeling his muscles stiffen and ache lightly as they usually did when he slept too long. He sprawled his front legs before him and stretched leisurely, relishing the pull of his muscles. The male's jaws opened in a huge gaping yawn during his stretch. After his muscles were contently relaxed and stretched, the wolf shook his whole body heartily. He decided it was time to be off, for he had better things to do than lay around all day. First though, he had to hunt.
Gambit trotted off towards the the direction of the field. His massive form was something that was hard to miss. For a Grey Wolf, Gambit was huge. He was as tall as they came at thirty four inches. He also weighs and amazing one hundred and twenty five pounds. His legs are filled out with muscle and his paws were bigger than most wolves of his breed by far. His pelt was long and slightly coarse feeling. His fur is mixture of reds and browns with a little bit of black, feathering down his back. A dark brown and black mask comes down and surrounds the top of his head and around his eyes. His ears are a bright dirt red color. The bridge of his nose is a light tawny brown color, and above his eyes are two ivory spots. His eyes are at mixture of brownish gold, with a hint of green. The beast trotted through the sparse forest swinging his head from side to side, scenting the air for prey of some sort.
His eyes were caught of that of a bird. He paused his trot and watched it intensely. His first thought was revenge for waking him from his peaceful slumber, but he knew he needed the bird for other purposes than just for ripping it apart. He lowered himself into a crouch and crept forward silently. He was surprisingly graceful for such a big beast. He never took his steely gaze off of his prey. He knelt in the brush and just waited. The bird hopped closer and closer as it pecked at the ground, searching for its own meal. He waited so very impatiently, he wanted this to be done swiftly so he could move on. With a rustle of bushes and a muted snarl, Gambit snapped at the bird. His large muzzle crushed the life out of the small specimen in a matter of seconds. He could taste a bit of blood in his mouth and he longed to scarf the little bird down, but refused and carried it with him as he continued his short journey to where he was going.
Gambit didn't take long to get where he was going. He could smell the pack border beyond the smell of fresh prey. He paused at the edge and dropped the bird to the ground. It made a dull thud as it landed at his paws. Gambit knew this was the Haden Valley border, and he wanted to be a part of this pack if anything. He admired the tales of their strong leader. Gambit raised his head up to the blue sky and his mouth formed a rough circle. A howl burst forth from his being, it was ragged at first, having several pitches, and then it vaulted into one clear echoing note. The message was clear that he wanted to see the alpha. He lowered his head and waited for a moment. He figured they had a pretty vast territory and decided it was best to wait somewhere cool. He left the bird as a small offering for the alpha he waited on and he trotted a very short ways away. Gambit lowered himself to his belly under a small tree on the very edge of the clearing, just right outside the border. The hardest part for him was now, the waiting.
ooc; Mostly for Gavin.

DONE.
A rather forceful howl broke through the wolf's screen of dreams as he rested within the shade of his den and his great body lurched forward, cerulean eyes snapping open and a surprised growl rumbling from the depths of his throat. With a grunt he pushed himself onto thick limbs, broad back arching in a wondrous stretch- the vertebrae popped down its length- and his forelegs overextended, the taut muscles quivering as they awoke from what had been a marvelous sleep. It had been quite evident that the howl was meant for him- they usually were at this hour- and so he struck off at a mild trot, oversized paws leaving ill-disguised tracks in his trail. His too-small ears swerved to consume the customary noises of a just-awake throng of lupines: groggy snuffs, whines caught in the throes of yawns, the hollow scrabbling of claws against wooden dens. A faintly proud smile appeared on his visage as he padded through the vast densite, eyes catching varying shapes and colors that gave insight as to their owners. The majority of them had already been filed away in his vast mind by scent, but some were far more reclusive than others and so he had not yet been able to properly introduce himself. While it was true that every prospective member was met cordially, the exchange of names and offers of ranks did not, by any stretch of one's imagination, mean that introductions had been made. Typically, wolves seemed to appear in groups, lessening even more his ability to retain information or give it. It was for this reason that he was moving at no slow pace towards the origin of the howl- though it was quickly becoming apparent that the owner was some great distance away, perhaps at a far boundary. Not wanting the stranger to feel unwelcome and depart, the behemoth Alpha slowed, lifting his broad muzzle into the air and belting out his own answering howl, its sonorous tones easily carrying over the still-quiet terra. It held a clear message for the receiver: You have been heard, remain where you are.
It was some time later that the scent of the outsider buffeted his scents and it sent the Alpha's ebony nostrils quivering. It was quite obviously male, and almost instantaneously the leader's thick tail had flicked up across his back- if the foreign male spotted Gavin before Gavin spotted him, there would be no doubt as to who was the dominant wolf in the situation. The brindled giant moved with a elegance the belied his stature, and held himself with such regality that it would not be unlikely for him to, at first glance, seem irritatingly arrogant- though that could not have been any less of the case. While it was quite obvious that he was of a superlatively sophisticated nature to the majority of his species, he was in no way an egotistical braggart and chose instead to allow his reputation to speak for him. The intensity of the scent had heightened as he had reached the sudden edge of the territory line and his white-bibbed muzzle lowered, nosing the brush and giving a pleased growl as his own musk still held strong. Pulling his masked head up, his palely cyan eyes were immediately drawn to the sight of a reclining wolf beneath the likely-relieving shade of a tree, just outside the well-marked boundary.
An announcing growl was emanated from black lips as the gargantuan male advanced on the recumbent stranger, thickly furred tail still held above the small of his back and eyes fixated on the obvious owner of the original howl. The Alpha halted a ways from the only slightly smaller male, head dipping once in a silent greeting. While there was no real tension slipping through his bulk, it would be foolish to assume that his guard was completely let down- Gavin had full confidence in his abilities to thwart any attacks, but it was not often that another could almost challenge his unusually large build. Then again, if this creature was indeed seeking entrance, he would be a valuable addition to Haden Valley's ranks. After a long moment of reflective silence, the Alpha cleared his throat and parted his jaws, rich baritone voice brought from the pit of his breast. "Good morning," he rumbled with a rather affable smile. "My name is Gavin; I am the Alpha of these lands. Are you seeking admittance, or is there another endeavor you have arrived for?" He took a step towards the male, shifting his weight.
