Flick Renegade; Lead Medic & Souless Wonder. Today was a beautiful day, the clouds had gathered together to form one, large, black lump in the sky, threatening to throw down the huge amounts of water they held. A lone wolf, he traveled underneath them, not caring it rained and poured or if it didn't, either way was fine with him. It was okay for his herbs to be wet, it made them last longer. As he trotted swiftly through the long, green grasses a beaten up leather satchel swung around, connected to a string that was fastened around his neck. He had others, but this one was his favorite. It was a sort of custom to his father, and his fathers fathers to pass down this satchel to the next medic apprentice if they showed promise. Apparently he had.
Sighing, he came to a stop, lifting his magnificent head and scenting the air, detecting the sweet aroma of Chervil, and almost instantly its uses and how to apply it ran through his head, the juice of the leaves could be used for infected wounds, or chewing the roots helped with bellyache. Flick knew that it was a very useful plant to have around, so he gazed around with intelligent, green eyes and spotted the small white flowers and the fern-like leaves buried in the grass to his right. Ambling toward them, he leaned down and grasped the whole gently with his teeth and pulled firmly. The entire plant, including the roots, came out of the damp ground easily, as he knew it would.
Stripping the leaves from the stem, he slipped the satchel from his neck and pawed it open, storing the leaves inside carefully. Chervil was a delicate plant and he didn't want to damage it with stupidity. Detaching the flowers and stems from the roots, he also stored the roots with the leaves, and cast the rest about, encouraging seeding for bigger patches. Closing the satchel, he slipped it onto his neck once more and continued on, looking for more helpful herbs and such. Flick knew from by the surrounding areas, that there were plentiful plants. This area had a good rainfall rate.
Padding forward, he lowered his head as he entered a low bunch of tree's that were sure to hold his next victim, cobwebs. Through his entire lifetime, he had found that cobwebs were the best thing to apply to wounds to stop them from bleeding, a wolves band aid if you will. It had stopped him from bleeding to death a great many time, and he really needed to find it, for he found during hunts, wolves were injured quite easily. Sighing, he sniffed around, trying to locate some.

Roiling clouds spoke rumors of the storm that was sure to come, though this particular wolf paid them no heed as he padded with a calm dignity across the grassy far-shore of the lake, massive paws unknowingly treading on the very herbs that his head medic was sure to eventually need. In this aspect Gavin was nothing less than a maladroit; he was incredibly helpless when it came to natural remedies and would not see the extreme marginal error of yew berries and raspberries if it were to save his own life. Not to say he did not pay strict attention to detail, because that could not be any less true- but in all honesty, that was the main reason he was currently recruiting wolves who specialized in the medicinal range of knowledge. It had not been an easy task to accomplish; both because the Alpha had no real idea of what traits he was looking for and it was a weighty decisions anyhow- lack of knowledge could lead to death or severe illness if the proper nostrum was not prescribed. Still, the male believed that he had appointed a wonderfully proficient wolf whose capabilities seemed endless, and for that Gavin felt exceptionally fortunate. The chosen male was young, yes- less than half of the Alpha's age- but had provided him with such riveting examples of the depth of his adeptness that he had felt compelled to assign him a rank appropriate for his level of mastery: head medic. Indeed, the young wolf had even begun to show that he had a firm grasp on a talent that the brindled behemoth found most incredible: horticulture.
And it was this young wolf that Gavin was currently seeking- now that the rest of Haden Valley seemed to be well-settled, he had decided that the time had come for proper, one-on-one introductions between himself and the members that relied on him, and vice versa. He had liked Flick from the start; had found his quiet demeanor and nonintrusive atmosphere refreshing, unlike the majority of his dependents. Rather than simply calling for the ebony lupine, however, Gavin had elected to follow his scent and instead observe, and hopefully increase his knowledge without seeming like a blundering fool. From what he had perceived so far, Flick seemed incredibly attentive about the quality of the flora that he harvested, and was exceptionally careful with the transference from the earth to the leather satchel that bore round his shoulders. Now, however, the young wolf had moved on towards the forest, and despite the manifold of greenery that lay beneath his paws, he did not seem interested in any of it and instead was peering quite closely at the trees as if there was some hidden aspect lurking there that Gavin was wholly unaware of. Feeling slightly confused, the Alpha set forward at a steady lope until, finding himself several yards from the striped wolf, Gavin halted, lowering his mid-step paw back to the loam and giving a husky growl to announce his sudden presence, his air of mild thoughtfulness.
“Flick,” he rumbled, dipping his head with a refined sort of nod. “How is it coming?” He was referring, of course, to the herb-picking, though once again eyeing the thick forest that the medic had been scouring, his brow furrowed and he shifted his mass, clearing his throat before speaking one more in his baritone voice, words slow to form but wholly eloquent. “Is there actually beneficial herbage that grows on the trees?” There was no doubt that he sounded either rude or incredibly obtuse; Gavin wondered for a brief moment if his words could be taken harshly (his words, of course, were not meant to hold anything but curiosity), but instead of correcting himself he merely affixed a genuine smile across his broad muzzle, knowing that it would likely be properly translated into benevolence.
“I feel that I should notify you that there is another member that wishes to become your apprentice. Whether or not you train him is, of course, entirely up to you. I've arranged for him to meet with you upon your return- his name is Taint. I do not believe he has any previous background in the subject, but he cannot be any more ignorant than I in this matter.” A wry smile twisted itself about the mann's broad muzzle, and he gave a husky chuckle of sorts, something that sounded very odd coming from a wolf such as Gavin, who left no airs for silliness.

Flick Renegade; Lead Medic & Souless Wonder. So intent was he on trying to find the cobwebs, that young Flick did not realize Gavin was in his presence until a husky growl came out of nowhere and raised the hair on Flicks hackles. They settled down again after a moment or two, as Flick flicked his ears back and registered that it indeed was Gavin. It wasn't that hard to tell it was him, big paws, lotta noise. A few moments later, and Flick slowly turned around, a pleasant, though not a smile, look affixed upon his darkened muzzle.
“Flick, How is it coming? Is there actually beneficial herbage that grows on the trees?”
A low chuckle escaped his maw, which was highly unusual for Flick. "It's coming along fine, just fine. You would be surprised then Gavin to find out that not only does cobwebs, which form between branches of trees, given the right conditions, that with the alder tree, you can use the bark and the leaves for medicinal purposes. " His comment was not spoken in a rude tone, it was simply informative. Flick's specialty was knowledge, and how to apply it. It was good trait for a medic to have. He had much knowledge of the nature surrounding them, but it was only because he had been raised that way.
As a pup, Flick's own mother and father abandoned him for some unknown reason that didn't really bother him. Seeing as he had no one to care for him, the pack's Lead Medic and wise elder took him in, his name was Renegade, and the name he proudly bestowed on his adopted son as he began to show much promise for medicle things in general. When Flick reached somewhere around a year old, Renegade passed away from natural causes, and passed with a very proud and pleasant feeling. He felt that he had taught Flick all he needed to know, and that the young prodigy would do just fine, with or without him.
And now Flick Renegade was here, a place that suited him quite alright. Big, brown ears perked forward as Gavin went to speak again, and Flick awaited for his leaders speech to come.
“I feel that I should notify you that there is another member that wishes to become your apprentice. Whether or not you train him is, of course, entirely up to you. I've arranged for him to meet with you upon your return- his name is Taint. I do not believe he has any previous background in the subject, but he cannot be any more ignorant than I in this matter.”
Hardly waiting a few moments to reply, Flick opened his maw to do so. " If he shows interest in the practice, then that is all you need. I will meet him, and take him on a few gatherings with me. If he starts to show understanding and grasps the basic concepts, I will apprentice him. However, if he doesn't, and I pick up on something else, I may recommend a different rank that he shows promise for, through you of course. " Flick lowered his cream-streak haunches to the ground, and sat down. He did not believe that there were any cobwebs in this certain batch of trees.
If he didn't find some today, he would with Taint.

Upon seeing the hackles bristle along the young wolf's shoulders, Gavin merely flicked his tail and proffered a reassuring smile, having no qualms with Flick's apparent irritation at being mildly surprised- it let the Alpha know that, if a rogue wolf or canine were to ever breach Haden Valley territory, the head medic would react accordingly. Settling his haunches on the supple sod, the brindled lupine cleared his throat, cerulean eyes fastened on the other with great intensity (and, of course, with the best intentions. The behemoth male merely wanted to become familiar with his newfound packmates, as well as with the methods that they applied to their everyday duties. In this way, he could better assist the group in working smoothly together, could keep out kinks in the system of their hierarchy.
Another affable smile curled his refined features as the healer spoke, the slightly grating chuckle caught by swiveling ears and was responded to with a brisk nod, though a moment's confusion clouded the normally bright face of the leader. “And I suppose that cobwebs have...some great purpose? I vaguely remember my previous pack's medic keeping a rather dry and useless stash of them, but in all honesty their usefulness is knowledge that I never attained. Perhaps you could enlighten me?” It seemed that the younger male, too, possessed the urge to instruct others. For Gavin- the intellectual he was- felt incredibly compelled to explain and correct if one's information was inaccurate...whether or not it was actually warranted or desired. In this case, it was both. The Alpha thumped his tail once, gazing past the medic toward the trees that he had been speaking of, a phantom of contentment flitting through him. There was no doubt that his decision to elect Flick had been one that was in vain- already the gargantuan was being familiarized with a subject that he had never before spoken of.
Rather surprised by Flick's instantaneous response, a full-fledged grin emerged before disappearing once more, contained with the near-consistent air of repose that the great Alpha held. “Excellent!” He barked, nodding slowly to himself. “That all sounds wonderful; there's no use in him continuing after an occupation that he will not excel at. I would also appreciate it if you would report his progress- or lack thereof- back to me. And while I doubt that it would happen under any instance...if Taint happens to give you any trouble, please do not hesitate to send him to me.” His face darkened for a moment before it cleared, and he dipped his head to Flick once more. “Do you enjoy Haden Valley, Flick?”In all truth the male's opinion did indeed hold weight; if Gavin's members were unhappy with the state of things already then there was no telling whether or not things would improve in the coming days.

Fiick merely smiled, this was what he was here for, to give out knowledge on saving lives and the like. " Of course I will enlighten you, they are very handy when folded well and pressed against a bleeding wound to either stop the bleeding, or act as a poultice. I have been saved many times by a good many piece of cobweb. " Raising his foot to his ear, Flick scratched at a small itch. He should try and stay out of the trees, bugs could be quite the annoyance.
“Excellent! That all sounds wonderful; there's no use in him continuing after an occupation that he will not excel at. Flick himself was surprised by Gavin's long response, but he simply shook out his fur before answering. " I will most certainly keep you updated on his progress, and i will keep that in mind. I do like Haden Valley very much, it grows herbs well, it is an excellent, beautiful, peaceful place, and the pack isn't half bad either. "
