{ Angrboda } the Outlander

The change in seasons was without a doubt, significant. The once snow covered land, pure and renewed, had taken on a new life—the trees were in full bloom, their branches heavy with crisp, green leaves that offered protection and shelter from the sun’s rays. The dry, bristle grass has fallen away, replaced by new, emerald sprouts that had grown tall and soft. With the arrival of fresh vegetation came the arrival of game—life had returned to the territory and had once again settled back into the norm of life. The animals would mill about carelessly waiting until the fall to begin their rush of preparation for the winter. Summer, while not the peaceful spurt of life like spring, was still quite pleasant, at least for this territory. While the weather would at times, get rather hot, it stayed in the more mild temperatures. The night was by far the most comfortable time---never dropping to the point of freezing, but staying crisp enough to keep the body invigorated and refreshed.

The Savage River area had been untouched save for the herd animals and predatory cats that lurked hidden within the tall grasses of the grassy fields that spread out away from a tree-bordered path way. It had been free from human influence for some time and it had allowed the territory to heal and once again become the beautiful, luxurious Eden that it had been meant to be. Within this Eden lurked a creature that had been looked upon as the embodiment of evil in most human eyes. It was a creature that was said to have lurked in the shadows, waiting for the perfect chance to strike and steal away the unsuspecting to slaughter and devour. Except—this creature was not the monster that human’s pictured. True, she was a beast of nature and an ideal specimen of her species—fit, healthy, strong and brave. She was fully equipped for survival and that’s just what she had done. Survived. Now she had found her way to this land and had decided that it would be her own—pack or no pack, she would live here and no one would tell her otherwise.

The creature---a female grey wolf was an impressive animal indeed. Her coat—unlike her breed suggested was not grey—but in fact a mixture of reds, rusts, tans and blacks with hints of silver here and there. The blend of dark colors created a coat that made her difficult to spot in most types of terrain, save for flat open spaces and of course snow—but get her in rocky ground, trees or tall grasses and she vanished. At night, she was nearly invisible. She was large and sturdily built; made for endurance and long distance traveling. She had the occasional silver streak that marred her skin as the clear sign that she had indeed survived many hardships during her life. She was a fighter, plain and simple. She had come from a very cold, barren flat land and thus has been created to live in such a place—however, eyeing the territory that she had recently claimed, she had decided that this would be the perfect place for her.

She had patrolled the entire expanse of the territory, marking and getting to know every inch of the place. It would do her well to be familiar with her own territory. She had come across a startling structure that she knew not what it was. It was intimidating---and at first she had thought it to be a strangely molded mountain, but on further inspection, she had realized that it was not. It was a den—of sorts and she decided that when she had realized that it was for the most part empty, except for an occasional mouse, she found it to be the perfect place to wait out foul weather. In fact, it was looking like this strange den would become her place of residence. At the current moment, she rested quietly outside the strange place, allowing her single good eye, the color of dried blood, to gaze lazily out into the distance. She was content, for the time being, with this new land. If she ever grew bored of it, she would simply move on until she found a new place that struck her fancy. The boarders had been clearly marked and so she had no concern with troublesome visitors. They would know the area was claimed and that trespassing meant serious problems for them.

Angrboda as she had been named was an outlander—or at least that’s what her clan had been called and would always remain an outlander, no matter where she resided. She would follow the way of life that her parents had set out before her and keep their memory alive with her actions. True, they would be displeased that she had not yet found herself a pack to lead and to once again, continue on the family line, but it would come in time, perhaps. She was not ready for a family. She had not yet found herself a male that had been worth her attention. She needed some strong, yet not overly pushy or obnoxious in nature. She wanted a quiet, brooding type of male, but she had yet to find her ideal better half. For now, she was content. She had no worries or regrets, well, all except one. That it had been her that has survived the battle and not one of her other siblings.

A lone male paused, looking at the large and strange structure that lay before him. It was so unnatural that is was almost startling, yet oddly majestic at the same time. The large Mackenzie Valley wolf's grey paws itched in anticipation thinking about what those walls held but he held it back. He could tell by the scent markers that there was a pack here, so that would have to be his main concern for now. The strange building could wait.

He'd been roaming as a loner too long. The winter had been hard, and it was time to settle down. Too bad he hadn't found this pack sooner. Sure, he could have just stayed with his old pack, but after what happened he didn't have the heart. Not to mention that their wars had been going on for so long that nobody remembered the real reason they were fighting. The only reason left to fight was to avenge the loss of old pack members, and so the war continued. Scythe snorted at the thought. However much he enjoyed fighting, he wouldn't fight with them again. Not after what happened to his sister and her daughter.

Started from his thoughts, Scythe looked over his shoulder as a bird shot from the trees, causing more to follow as it set up the alarm. "Get over it, damn bird. Act like you've never seen a wolf before," he snarled, turning his attention back to the matter at hand.

The black brute lifted his head to the sky that towered high above him and let out a loud, drawn out howl. When he lowered his muzzle his bright blue eyes flickered mischievously. He'd let the pack know he was there, but would any of them come? "Come on, I haven't got all day." He took a couple steps back and sat down, looking around and trying to find one of the wolves who lived in this land. Sure, he could easily walk into the territory and find one of them himself, but then he'd have to deal with being accused of trespassing and Scythe just wasn't in the mood for that kind of crap.

The rusty colored female had for the most, been content to lounge in front of her new lair, knowing that there was very a very competent wolf roaming her lands and keeping two keen eyes open for any sort of trouble. Cwen had turned out to be a wonderful addition to her new pack. Loyal and set to do what she needed to make sure she did her rightful duty. Sure, the female had her faults, but it wasn't something that bothered Angrboda. As long as a wolf could prove worthy to the pack, it didn't matter their size, their gender or if they only had two legs. If they where useful, then they where useful. The wind had shifted directions and for some time, all Angrboda could smell ws the familiar scents of the territory--squirrels and larger game, however, there was a new faint scent that dirfted her way as another gust picked up. For a moment, Angrboda did nothing, assuming Cwen would be quit aware of the arrival.

But as the call went up, she became very aware that the owner of the scent and call was far closer to her then she had realized. Perhaps lingering at the boarder. The fact that they where indeed waiting and had taken the time to alert her to their presence kept her mood from taking a nose dive. Rising slowly, she allowed her front paws to slide out in front of her in a tired strech, tail curling nicely over her back. Casting one last glance over her shoulder to her new throne before finally setting out at an easy lope towards the territory boarders. The sun was high and she soon realized that she was not to happy with the heat. She was never happy with the heat. For some strange reason, it appeared that the heat was constantly drawn to her. True, the dark hes of her coat had something to do with it, but the ways of heat conduction escaped the mind of the wolf. It had nothing to do with survival and therefor was hardly worth her attention.

She eased her way gingerly around shrubs and trees, following the legnth of the castle until it finally ended, turning inwards to head along the side of it and straight towards the territory boarder. As she neared the spot where she assumed the call had come from, she allowed her nose to do the rest of the work. The wind had thankfully remained blowing in her face and therefore, allowed the strangers scent to drift her way. It would have been easier to track if the creature had actually crossed in the territory. However, if that had been the case, there was a great possiblity she would have greeted the traveler with agression instead of the annoyed curiousity that was now weighing heavily on her mind.

It didn't take the female long to ease her through shrubs, bringing the male into sight, while for the moment remaining hidden herself. She took some time to study him closely, gaging his potential threat level and what exactly his attitude might be like. Finally settling on the fact that he wouldn't offer much of a threat to her or Cwen, she stepped ou, emerging from the shadows created by the trees and into the view of the male. "Welcome, stranger. What might be your purpose for lingering here upon the boarder of a claimed territory?"

As he waited the male took in the scenery on the other side of the border. Yes, it was beautiful territory, though none could deny that the large building was strange. Scythe stared at it for a moment longer before letting out a sigh, shaking his head. It had to be the work of humans, though he had no idea what wolves would be doing hanging around them. There weren't any scents of humans around the border, though, so maybe they were long gone. Guess I'll find out later.

The wind changed direction, blowing his scent straight into the pack's territory. He wasn't aware of the female's approach until she was already there, asking him his purpose. Scythe tensed and looked her over for a moment before nodding his head in respect. Yes, she was obviously the leader. He rose to his paws, bright blue eyes gazing at her calmly.

"I figured waiting would be better than intruding." He forced himself to relax, knowing that being on the edge when first meeting the alphess might be a bad idea. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything?" he added, catching a hint of annoyance in her voice.

The female eyed the male curiously, watching every movement he made, ever tensing of muscle beneath his dark coat, anything that might show her that the male might be thinking of trying something. However, she saw that indeed, he was keeping his manners in check and she was pleased, her dark colored tail flicking gently to the side. She returned the nod, and listened to him speak, reclining comfotably at the invisible line of the territory boundry. One unschooled in battle would assume she had relaxed and allowed her guard to drop, but if one would look closer, they would see the tension in her muscles, the placement of her paws as though she were ready to rise and sidestep out of the way of a charge. In fact, her guard was nowhere near being down. While her one eye remained locked on the male, her ears remained alert and swivling, picking up all the sounds going on around them and her mind quickly determining the threat level of them all.

"You thought correct. I don't take kindly to tresspassers. And there was a great chance of you running into Cwen. And facing her is not the most enjoyful experience around." She cast a critical glance passed him, making sure there were no others lingering just behind him, waiting for a chance to make a move. Seeing that there was nothing to concern herself over, she rose, returning her one-eyed gaze back to the mail. "No, you are not intterrupting anything. I am Angrboda. Owner of this fine land. What sort of business do you have here? Are you seeking to cross or perhaps join?"

As the female rose, she had half turned, looking back the way she had come from. In the distance, the castle could be seen looming, yet while others might find it an imtimidating sight, she found it comforting. Having decided on that to be her home, she had grown fond of the place and its strange halls and beding sites within. There were many, most of them holding several strange wooded growths--reminding her of flat rocks that she could perch upon. But these were soft, filled, from what she could tell by the scents, with feathers. She had been surprise at the comfort they offered as well as the warmth. They where the perfect spots for slumbering. Of course, her den was located at the far end of the strange creation, up stone steps and tucked away in the darkness. From the high point, she could look out through the hole out over the territory and see forever.

The brute's trained eyes watched the female carefully, just as he knew she was watching him. She seemed so calm, just as he did. It was almost like a game, seeing who could look the most relaxed while still being ready for anything. The only reason Scythe watched her so carefully was out of habit - he wasn't planning on starting a fight, especially not with the alphess of a potential new home.

"I suppose not. From the way you speak of her she must be quite an interesting wolf." He held back the urge to flirt with this female as he did with others. It was harder than he thought it would be. Just another habit, and one that he knew needed to be broken. It didn't bother him much, but it certainly bothered the mates of those he flirted with.

"My name's Scythe. And join your pack? I've been roaming as a loner so long after leaving my old pack... If I did wish to join, would you accept me?" Scythe's voice grew curious and his bright blue eyes reflected that emotion. He followed Angrboda's gaze back to the castle before fixing his eyes back on her. That place still interested him. If accepted into the pack he'd have to remember to look around in there.

I came along….

Sunlight radiated throughout the lands the summer heat was far less intense here than at the other reaches of these vast lands. The emerald hues sparkled with their natural beauty providing the wind with it’s lovely hurtles, which it snagged and tugged at casting an individual scent from each and every plant, prey, and predator alike. A light slate form breathed in these scents and allowed her mind to scan through them. To search for the one of the most interest and that would be the one she followed. She caught the scent of plants of some sort which seemed tempting at first, then the wonderful smell of foaming water reached her but this to she ignored. She went to turn around; catching nothing of interest but then her pricked ears caught a tempting call.

It was a howl sprung forward from one of her own kind and at once she adjusted her course towards the sound. Long grey legs propelled her forth with the agile grace captured by the youth of her kind and others alike. The howl ended rather abruptly but already her ears had pinpointed the sound to a relatively specific position. Paws carried her across the earth pushing off of the soft and somewhat tangible surface. It was dry and seemed to crumble underfoot as she went, but she pressed onwards nonetheless. Vision turned over the scenery slowly and she captured it within her mind, the beauty of the lands that is. But also the feeling of anticipation and excitement she felt. Suddenly, a scent, or rather scents, breached her nose.

And all the things you do….[/color]

A pack was here and then the excitement grew, paws quickened and her heart leapt. She followed the scents along the outside marking of the pack's territory. Steps were silent but swift as she ran over the deeply hued lands. Thoughts twisted and turned within her mind as she ran but none were able to last long enough to make since to her. She had been a loner within these lands for a while, but had longed for the companionship of wolves for a while now. As she made a bee-line for the steadily growing scents she allowed herself to calm slightly, enjoying the beauty that passed her by at almost a blur.

And it was called yellow….[/color]

The scents of two wolves distinguished themselves from the overall aroma of the pack and she slowed to a quick lope. What would be occurring on the outside of this undergrowth she knew not but her optimism captured her and she only hoped for the best. Her body quivered slightly out of excitement as she slowed further. The stench of two others was quite overwhelming here not that she minded all that much. Eager to be amongst her own kind again she pushed forward, but stopped as she heard gently spoken words of a female.

So then I took my turn….[/color]

She listened to them and then only moments later a male’s followed the female’s vocals. She listened to both sets and then tried to make her out of the foliage. Soon she came out beside the two of them and almost on top the darker one and quickly stepped over, allowing them both more space. “I-I’m sorry, I heard you talking and-“[/b] Suddenly her nerves caught up to her but she lifted her ivory crown higher and spoke again, “I’m Delany.”[/b] The words were spoken strongly as she introduced herself quickly and rather hurriedly. She stood slightly away from the other two and watched with interest.

Oh all the things I've done….[/color]

She breathed in the scents of the two; the male was a loner and the female the alpha. Now she felt all the more flustered but dropped her head slightly in respect to them both. The alphess more specifically though, for that was who could determine her fate here. The apologetic look upon her face began to fade a gentle smile replaced it. She hesitantly sat but would spring if asked to leave. With a glance beside her she noticed the impressive structure that was part of the lands that this pack held. She envisioned herself within the bounds of the castle, exploring the towering heights, conquering the gaps in the floors, daring the darkest chambers.

And it was all yellow….[/color]

Attention snapped back upon the other two and she worked hard to keep it upon the task at hand, in order to explore one first has to receive permission to become part of the pack. And what a glorious pack it must be she thought as she examined the both of them. The female looked to be very strong and healthy and she commanded respect. The male was less authoritative but he too was an impressive canine. Paws shuffled slightly as she adjusted her seat, wondering what the other two were thinking at this moment.[/color][/size][/blockquote]

The single crimson eye narrowed, studying the male closely. He was unlike the other that had entered the territory, but then again, this male could have a lot to offer. So far he had been polite enough, offering no real signs of disrespect towards her, yet there was always the chance. She silently chided herself for her quick judgements. Being so untrusting would make it difficult to increase the side of the pack. So, instead of questioning the male further, hoping to gain some sort of insight to just who he was, she offered a grim smile. "Cwen is a valuable member to my pack." She paused, considering he question thoughtfully. Finally, returning her gaze to his face, her ears laying back and flashing him glance of her teeth.

"To accept you into the pack, you would need to pledge your loyalty to myself and the pack. I will not accept free-loaders. You will be expected to pull your weight." Again, she fell silent again, lifting her head slightly so that she could test the scents on the wind. The direction of the wind had shifted and swept away scents coming from beyond the boarders--all that she could smell was her own territory. Finally, with unease weighing heavily on her mind, she spoke. "But if you can make that pledge to me. Then you will find a home within my territory." She twisted her head over her shoulder so that she gazed back inward at the territory, towards the castle. "And in there."

She had heard the approach, before she saw the arrival and she had been preparing herself for what could come. Already her muscles had been growing tense, readying herself for a possible attack. However, when the female stepped into view, Angrboda felt suddenly foolish. There was no threatening air about this female, not one bit. Shaking her head slightly, she attempted a smile. "No need to apologize. You are still on free ground, there for you have done nothing wrong. I am Angrboda. The owner of ther territory which you are standing outside of. Perhaps there is something I can help you with..? True, her behavior towards the female was different, but she had learned right off the bat that one needed to handle each arrival differently. The way one presented themselves determined just how she reacted as well as the overall feeling she got from them. And it just came right down to the simple basics. Angrboda was female. And therefore, felt a closer bond to other females.

In all actuality, the godforsaken castle that loomed rather ominously above the terra around it had so far proven to be a decidedly laudable choice as a den site, though it was unorthodox at best. After years of finding shelter at ground level, it had taken quite some time for the she-wolf to have attempted to settle, though the majority of her nights were spent restlessly staring out of the sills of the window-openings that dotted the degenerating citadel's walls, ears pricked and tuned to listen to the eased breathing of her comatose leader. There was not a moment of time when at least some part of the Head Guard's brain was not fastened on Angrboda's protection; if she was not patrolling the borders then she could be located within a short distance from the one-eyed Alphess. Of course, it was only natural- Cwen was a bit more paranoid than the majority of those she had run across, and so any snapping twig was immediately taken as a threat until the situation was deemed suitable by either wolf.

And so it was for the first time in days that the ginger-hued femme had actually taken to sleeping- though it was during the day. She had no reason to slumber whilst her leader was; someone needed to be on constant watch and Cwen would not dare to let Savage River's only other member be assigned to that task. As it was, she could currently be found dozing, large body curled into itself and her scraggly remnants of a tail flipped towards her, chest gently rising and falling with each untroubled breath. In all honesty, had the wolf noticed that her mistress had taken leave of the stone monument, it was highly unlikely that she would be here now, savoring sleep instead of keeping to her duties. Yet the Alphess needn't worry- there was an internal clock ticking away, every moment bringing her closer to consciousness. Three, two, one-

Eyes snapped open and large jowls parted to reveal a curling tongue and rows of glistening fangs that were typically hidden behind a battered muzzle. Pulling herself to her feet, Cwen's back arched in a wonderful stretch, toes separating as the paws were overextended. She blinked, casting away the dreary haze that was sleep and peering warily about her. Surprise was an irritable growl as she realized with a start that neither her mistress nor the whelp that was Ko seemed to be near- in an instant she had taken off, stocky limbs carrying her with surprising speed down the winding staircase. She leapt off the fourth to last, calloused pads thrumming steadily forward as she loped through the capacious edifice. Her head lowered, as it always did when she passed beneath the archway entrance, and she gave a throaty bark as she ran, ears pricking up to attempt and acquire some knowledge of Angrboda's whereabouts. The husky note had seemed to become her trademark call to the leader, alerting Angr to her presence and ensuring that neither of them were caught off guard. Yet the only sound that reached her senses was the muted beat of her paws against the loam.

It was shortly after this, however, that a flock of birds fled from a tall-standing tree; an obvious disturbance had rattled their nerves and not a moment later a bellowing howl ricocheted through the nearby forest, one that was obviously calling for the leader. Snorting silently to herself, Cwen re-angled her direction, strides bunching as her pace increased, though she did not return the howl. Still, at least the owner had given his entrance a thought, and had alerted them before further trespassing, a trait that Cwen thought was common sense, yet one that was not often displayed. Ah, well. There was one piece of information that the newcomer could not be judged on, and so the she-wolf let the matter drop, focusing instead on seeking the mann, whose scent was mixing quite thickly with the atmosphere, along side Angrboda's- a fact that was a visible and considerate relief. And, speak of the devil- the ruddy back of Savage River's queen was quite clear, and across from her a pair of lupines had appeared- one not so large, the other of height that was possibly greater than the one-eyed leader herself, and quite obviously male. Judging from the pseudo-relaxed position that Angr had settled into, the encounters had not been negative ones and it was with this rationale in mind that Cwen hung back, swinging her tattered tail side to side and shifting her weight uneasily. There was no reason for her to burst into a clearing, proverbial gun drawn and looking crazed. Her eyes- one of which was a deep pumpkin, the other a fairly pale green- scanned each of the wolves from the cover of the shrubbery with mild intensity; first the ebony male, his eyes a stunning cerulean that Cwen had never before confronted and a stature that rivaled her own. Lowering her grizzled, gray-ticked maw to the earth, the stare shifted to the young female, who was resting with a calm smile affixed to her features; neither wolf seemed flagrantly disrespectful- another positive characteristic to be found.

Feeling rather satisfied with her covert once-over, the Head Guard emitted her guttural note once more, before padding briskly from the tree line, steely gaze switching from wolf to wolf. “Angrboda,” she spoke, dipping her head in a respectful nod before she took up her spot beside the leader, though she remained standing. “It seems we are getting rather popular.”

A large group of birds, a flock perhaps, crossed overhead the gathering and the white female turned her head upwards and followed their pattern in the sky until she no longer could. Then she cast her vision back upon the wolves sitting within the area, the solemn face of the male as well as the authoritative one of the rusty colored female. Within a few moments of her arrival another being entered their cluster, a seemingly crimson colored wolf with a grey muzzle. She too, commanded the respect of others and Delany gave it willingly. She dropped her white skull in a low bow and then it rose again.

She spoke to the large female in tones as if they were friends and Delany assumed that she was a much respected wolf within the lands of this pack. She finished speaking and then the leader’s own words were released into the air. Her name was given out and the ivory female placed it deep within the depths of her mind. Angrboda. She wondered the other wolves’ names but did not voice this thought as she straightened her posture. She wanted to seem desirable to have within the pack and so she tried to look as respectful and strong as she could. Mind though that she was not exactly a hardened wolf and instead of a battle ready, strong face she simply achieved one of a placid nature.

As the alpha female finished she allowed the words to process through her brain fully, something she almost never did. For the young wolf always acted on impulsive, well not always but at the very least half the time. Snowy hued paws shifted slightly through the green stalks and her eyes fell to them for a few heartbeats before they climbed back up to Angrboda’s. “There is something I hope you can help me with,”

[/b] She said gently and at the same time full of anticipation, “I want to join this pack.” Her words had never been eloquent or grand on any scale but she had always spoken them with honesty and a good heart. These were presant in her tones now as she finished speaking. After this she held her gaze even but slightly unsteady as she shifted it between the three wolves.

Thousands of thoughts crossed through her mind and they whirled and whisked dragging her common sense with them. But she remained sitting fighting the urge to jump up and do some kind of activity. The patience it required to her would be practically it for the day, she was young and in time she would grow. All the same she was very hyper for one of her age, perhaps some use for her wild nature could be found by the leaders of this pack though. Ears remained up and alert upon a rounded skull and eyes steadied themselves upon the alpha waiting for her verdict.

Angrboda shifted her weight from her left paws to her right, narrowing her eye slightly in thought. The female's request was a simple one and so far, she had shown absolutley no reason why Angrboda shouldn't in fact, allow her to stay. It might have been the quickest acceptance Angrboda had ever made, but she finally shifted her gaze back to the female and gave a slight nod before speaking. "You may stay here. Make yourself at home. You'll find protection here, but I expect you to beable to pull your weight and help where you can." She glanced over her shoulder back towards the castle and then back at the female before her.

"This is where I want the pack to stay. There are all sorts of places inside --den like places. You may rest where you like. Except in that--" She indicated towards the tall tower with her snout, her tail flicking once."Thats mine. But it'll be easy to get ahold of anyone within there. A call will carry. So if you ever need to find me and can't locate the entrance to my den, then just call. She reclined, curling her thick tail about her haunches, thoughtfully gazing back towards the castle. It was a strange place and it had taken Angrboda a little while to grow accustom to it and despite Cwen's dislike, Angrboda had coaxed her into the place.

Angrboda started, snapping her one eyed gaze to Delany. Cwen. She would have to give the female a heads up about Cwen. The Head Guard meant well and there was no denying the fact that she didn't deserve her position. But she could be a little intimidating, at least to new members. "Ah yes.. There is also Cwen. Our Head Guard. Don't be to worried about how she acts. Its just her way. However, if you see anything out of the ordinary. Bring it to her attention immediately. Also--Delany, tell me, what are you skilled in?
